Cookie Policy

Last Updated: September 7, 2026

This Cookie Policy explains what cookies and similar technologies run on www.vortex.llc, which service sets each one, what this site does not run, and what you can do about any of it. It is part of our Privacy Policy. Every statement below describes the code that is actually deployed on this site rather than a general practice.

What Are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. Related technologies do the same job by other means: browser local storage keeps values on your device, and tracking pixels are single-purpose image requests that report a visit. This page covers all three.

One Tag Waits for Your Answer, the Rest Do Not

We want to be exact about this, because two earlier versions of this page were not. The only advertising tag on this site is the LinkedIn Insight Tag, and it does not load until you click Allow. Not loaded and idle, and not loaded with tracking switched off: until you answer, no LinkedIn code has been fetched, no LinkedIn script is on the page, and no LinkedIn cookie can exist. Clicking Decline is one click in the same row of the same size, and we remember it, so the question is not asked again.

Everything else on this page loads when your browser opens a page, and we do not ask you first: Google Analytics 4, PostHog, Vercel Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights. There is no settings panel, no category checkboxes, and no on-page switch for those four. The controls listed under How to Control Cookies are what works for them.

With JavaScript turned off, nothing at all happens: no banner, no LinkedIn tag, and no LinkedIn pixel. The one-pixel image request to px.ads.linkedin.com that used to run in that case was removed, because a visitor who cannot be shown the question should not be the one visitor still counted.

This site does not respond to Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control browser signals. No code on this site reads either signal.

What Vortex Computation Sets Directly

No cookies. Our own server and application code set no cookies at all. Every cookie described on this page is set by one of the third-party services in the next section, not by us. Our origin sends no cookie header of its own.

Browser local storage, for five things. This site stores a small number of values in your browser to avoid pestering you: your answer to the LinkedIn question above, whether you dismissed the prompt offering to install this site as an app, whether you declined update notifications, whether a notification subscription was accepted, and a count of your visits used only to keep an install hint off a first-time view. Those values never leave your browser and are never sent to us or to anyone else. Clearing your site data removes them, which also clears your LinkedIn answer, so the question is asked once more.

Push notifications, only if you ask for them. If you install this site as an app and accept the offer of update notifications, your browser creates a push subscription and we store it so we can deliver them. We do not ask for notification permission on page load, only after an install. See our Privacy Policy for what that record contains.

Third-Party Services on This Site

Four of the following five load on every page for everyone. The fifth, the LinkedIn Insight Tag, loads only for people who have clicked Allow.

Google Analytics 4 (analytics)

Measurement ID G-8Y2TK2P2FX, provided by Google and loaded from www.googletagmanager.com. It uses cookies and similar identifiers to report which pages are viewed, where visitors arrived from, an approximate location derived from IP address, and browser and device type. We use it to understand which of our pages are worth keeping. Google publishes its own description of this data in its policy for sites that use its services.

This tag is loaded with Google's consent-mode advertising signals declared as denied before the first measurement command runs: ad storage, ad user data, and ad personalization. Nothing on this site ever sets those three to granted, and this site runs no Google advertising tag for them to serve. The analytics storage signal is declared granted, which is what this site was already doing before the declaration was written down.

PostHog (analytics, and error reports)

Provided by PostHog and loaded from PostHog's cloud, at either us-assets.i.posthog.com or eu-assets.i.posthog.com depending on which region our project is in, with the measurements sent to us.i.posthog.com or eu.i.posthog.com. It records that a page was opened, the address of that page, the address you arrived from, and the browser and device details your browser sends with any request, including the IP address every request carries.

It sets no cookie, and it stores nothing on your device. We start it with its storage set to memory only, so nothing about you is written to cookies, local storage or session storage, and nothing survives you closing the tab. This is the one third-party service on this site that leaves no trace in your browser at all.

We also switch off, in the code that starts it, three things PostHog is capable of. Automatic capture is off, so it does not record your clicks, your typing, or anything you enter in a form. Session recording is off, so no replay of your screen, keystrokes or mouse movement is ever started; the refusal is in the page rather than in a setting on our account, so it cannot be turned on from the other side. Surveys are off, so PostHog cannot show you anything.

We never tell PostHog who you are. Nothing on this site calls its identify function, so it builds no profile of a named person, and no name, email address or form content is ever sent to it.

It also receives our error reports. If a page of this site fails to render in your browser, we send PostHog the error type, the error message, the internal reference code, and the address of the page it happened on, so that we find out about it. No form contents and nothing identifying you is included. PostHog describes what it collects in its privacy policy.

LinkedIn Insight Tag (advertising, and only if you allow it)

Partner ID 7024594, provided by LinkedIn and loaded from snap.licdn.com. It uses cookies and supports advertising measurement and audience building on LinkedIn. This is the one genuinely advertising-related technology on this site, and it is the one we ask about. Until you click Allow, nothing is requested from snap.licdn.com and no LinkedIn code runs; your answer is stored in your browser and applies on every page of this site. The one-pixel fallback request to px.ads.linkedin.com that used to run when JavaScript was disabled has been removed and is not sent to anyone. LinkedIn describes what the tag collects in its cookie policy.

Vercel Analytics and Vercel Speed Insights (performance)

Provided by Vercel, which hosts this site, and served from this domain rather than an outside one. They count page views and measure how quickly pages load. Vercel states that these two products do not use cookies and do not track visitors across sites; we have not independently audited that claim, and we report it here as the vendor's statement rather than as our own finding.

What This Site Does Not Run

A previous version of this page listed several services that are not installed here. To be specific about what is absent:

  • No Google Ads conversion or remarketing tag
  • No Meta or Facebook pixel
  • No X (Twitter) tag
  • No HubSpot tracking code
  • No session recording, heatmap, or scroll-replay tool. PostHog, described above, is capable of session recording, and we start it with that capability switched off in the page itself rather than only in a setting on our account
  • No chat widget, and no embedded video, map, or social widget
  • No web fonts fetched from a font provider. The typeface on this site is served from this domain, so opening a page makes no request to Google Fonts

How to Control Cookies

The advertising tag has a switch on this page, below. For everything else the working controls are the ones your browser and the services themselves provide. They are not all equally effective here, and the list below says where each one stops.

This control needs JavaScript. With JavaScript turned off, the LinkedIn Insight Tag does not load on any page of this site and there is nothing here to switch.
  • Block third-party cookies in your browser. Every major browser offers this in its privacy settings, and several now do it by default. Nothing on this site breaks if you do. Be aware of what it does not reach: PostHog sets no cookie here in the first place, so blocking cookies does not stop it. A content blocker or tracker-blocking extension does, and so does blocking the host named in the PostHog section above.
  • Turn off Google Analytics for every site you visit with Google's opt-out browser add-on.
  • Turn off LinkedIn advertising tracking everywhere else through the choices described in LinkedIn's cookie policy. On this site the switch above is enough, and a browser third-party cookie block also stops it here.
  • Delete what is already stored. Clearing cookies and site data for vortex.llc removes both the third-party cookies above and the local-storage values described earlier, including your answer to the LinkedIn question.
  • Turn off notifications at any time in your browser's site settings for this domain, if you previously allowed them.

For general background on cookies and how to inspect the ones a site has set, see www.allaboutcookies.org.

Changes to This Cookie Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy. When a tag is added to or removed from this site, this page is updated in the same change, along with the "Last Updated" date above. If you ever find something running here that this page does not describe, tell us at hello@vortex.llc and we will fix the page.
